Monday, September 03, 2007Music: Classic Songs, My Way, by Paul Anka Labels: Miscellaneous, music, TV 2 Comments:
With regards to "My Way" and Paul Anka, Joe Queenan's look at the origins of that song is worth a read ( http://music.guardian.co.uk/vinylword/story/0,,2129407,00.html ), if you like Queenan, anyway. If not it's incredibly snarky. I laughed, though, and not only at this bit:
As recently as two years ago, My Way was the most popular number played at British funerals, but since then it has ceded pride of place to James Blunt's Goodbye My Lover. This is yet another reason to avoid befriending people who look like they might kick the bucket before you get a chance to vet their iPods.
The new Anka album closes with his duet with Jon Bon Jovi on "My Way." ("Our Way"?) I'd take James Blunt over that.
