Although like you I've seen only a pair of movies from this box set, Noir Four has already proved its worth to me. Wait until you see Audrey Totter in TENSION and you (um) will see what I mean. William Conrad is also in good form, but it's definitely not the same as the leading lady's.
Faith Domergue is a good reason to watch WHERE DANGER LIVES. While both roles are definitely noir, her performance is as different from Audrey Totter's as night is to day. Or brunette vs. blonde? Maybe. Robert Mitchum is definitely Robert Mitchum. In retrospect neither story holds up all that well. But if you've never seen either one before, they'll each pull you along and you won't even notice until they're over. By the way, the guys over at Rara-Avis are always saying that if there's a happy ending, it can't be noir. Do you go along with that? If not, or even if so, what's your take on what Noir is?
You could always take the laptop to a bar instead of a coffee shop, although I'm not sure if that's better or worse. I've sort of enjoyed holing up in a corner of a mostly empty pub with a beer, hammering away at the keys.
I think in my case, that would be worse. Although I have noticed that my favorite local pub offers free wi-fi ...
